U.S. Senator-elect Tim Kaine is surrounding himself with the familiar faces who helped him win this November as he prepares for his new job.

Kaine announced the members of his transition team Thursday, selecting former campaign manager Mike Henry for the all-important role of chief of staff. Henry has a history of running Democratic campaigns in Virginia, having served as campaign manager for Kaine's successful gubernatorial bid in 2005 and Sen. Mark Warner's 2008 election.

Henry also worked for U.S. Senator Chuck Robb on Capitol Hill and for an international nonprofit aimed at ending global poverty, according to a news release.

"I am thrilled this team has agreed to assist me as we set up a Senate office that will serve all Virginians. Their expertise will be invaluable during this process," Kaine said. "Mike has been a trusted member of my staff and advisor for years and I am excited he's agreed to continue to serve the Commonwealth in this new role."

Kaine also named his campaign's policy director, Jillian Martin, as transition director, and scheduling director Marc Cheatham as transition scheduler. Martin worked for U.S. Senator Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and former U.S. Senator Robert Byrd, D-W.Va. Cheatham has spent much of his political career working for Kaine.

Kaine expects more staff announcements in the coming weeks before he takes office in January.
