After the first few weeks, Wizards rookie guard Bradley Beal has struggled to find his shot -- shooting 32.1 percent from the field in his first seven games. But other first-year players have gotten off to much better starts:

5. C Andre Drummond, Detroit » For some reason the 19-year-old has averaged just 15.1 minutes per game for the winless Pistons. But he has been very effective when he has played -- averaging 6.4 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 67.6 percent from the field in limited action.

4. SG Dion Waiters, Cleveland » He was a hot-and-cold shooter at Syracuse and has shown that in the NBA as well. He has had two games of at least 23 points, shooting above 58 percent in both. But he also has had a couple off nights, including going 3-for-16 vs. Brooklyn on Tuesday.

3. SF Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Charlotte » After winning seven games all of last season, the Bobcats are on a three-game winning streak. In those victories, the No. 2 draft pick has averaged 14.0 points and 7.3 rebounds a game.

2. PF Anthony Davis, New Orleans » Because of a concussion, Davis has played in only four games this season. While his offensive numbers have been solid -- averaging 15.0 points a game -- Davis really has made a difference on defense -- averaging 2.8 blocks a game.

1. PG Damian Lillard, Portland ?» The point guard out of Weber State scored 64 points and had 27 assists in the first three games of his career. Lillard leads all rookies in points and assists, and it's not that close. He's also shooting better than 40 percent from 3-point range.
