A 23-year-old woman was groped Monday evening in the Springfield area, and police believe that this may be the 10th reported attack in the area committed by the same person.

Shortly after 6 p.m. Monday, a 23-year-old woman was walking in the 7200 block of Commerce Street when a man approached her from behind, grabbed and groped her and fled, Fairfax County police spokeswoman Lucy Caldwell said.

The attacker was described as a Hispanic man, about 5 feet 8 inches tall, with a medium build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, blue jeans and tennis shoes.

Monday night's groping is the 10th similar incident that has been reported to have occurred recently in the Springfield area. The earliest reported fondling took place in September. An attack involving another 23-year-old woman occurred on Nov. 1 on the same block where Monday's incident took place.

Caldwell said that police "have a number of measures in place" in an effort to apprehend the attacker, including extra patrols.
