Animal activists ding Pelosi over veal

Nancy Pelosi has drawn the ire of one animal rights group over menu items at several of the restaurants the California Democrat is invested in. In Defense of Animals has sent a letter to Pelosi urging her to adopt a no-veal policy at four eateries owned by the Moana Restaurant Group.

IDA special projects officer Christy Griffin tells Yeas & Nays that if Pelosi fails to respond to their letter, the group will organize protests outside the restaurants. Griffin said that IDA is particularly concerned with veal in restaurants on the grounds of cruelty, but pays attention to other industry issues too, like factory farming.

Griffin was not aware of any other restaurants associated with members of Congress that violate the group's conscience. Apparently Rep. Bobby Schilling's Saint Giuseppe's Heavenly Pizza in Moline, Ill. passed muster.
