Residents of Accomack County in Virginia will not receive federal aid to help with the cleanup of Hurricane Sandy.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency on Thursday denied Gov. Bob McDonnell's request for disaster aid for victims affected by last month's superstorm. McDonnell may appeal or seek assistance from the Small Business Administration.
"I am disappointed that residents of Accomack County will not receive the federal disaster relief they desperately need in the wake of Hurricane Sandy," McDonnell said. "I personally visited the county in the days after the storm and met individually with a number of citizens who suffered severe flooding and damage from the storm. They need federal help."
FEMA previously approved disaster aid for local governments to deal with the Sandy's aftermath, including Arlington, Loudoun and Prince William counties and the cities of Fairfax, Falls Church and Manassas.
