A stabbing outside the Minnesota Avenue Metro station Sunday morning forced the station to delay its opening.

Just before 7 a.m. Sunday, two men got in a fight in the breezeway leading up to the station entrance, Metro spokesman Dan Stessel said. The fight escalated until one slashed the other across the lower torso with what appeared to be something similar to a razor or boxcutter. The victim, a 19-year-old, was taken to a nearby hospital where he is currently in stable condition.

The suspect ran, and a canvass of the area by D.C. and Metro police was unsuccessful. Police are reviewing security camera video for an image of the suspect but they were not ready to release a physical description, Stessel said.

The station was opened at about 7:50 a.m., 40 minutes late as a result of the altercation.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Metro Transit Police at 202-962-2121.
