Joe Vellano makes inaugural all-ACC coaches' team

For the first time the ACC coaches voted for an all-conference football team. Their selections weren’t much different than those made by the media. Of the 22 players on the first-team, the coaches selected three different – WR Conner Vernon (Duke) instead of Alex Amidon (Boston College); OT James Hurst (North Carolina) instead of Brandon Thomas (Clemson); and LB Jack Tyler (Virginia Tech) instead of Steve Greer (Virginia).

The two bodies also were in agreement on all of the individual award winners. Offensive POY: Tajh Boyd Clemson); Defensive POY: Bjoern Werner (Florida State); Rookie of the Year: Duke Johnson (Miami); Defensive ROY: Ronald Darby (Florida State); Coach of the Year: David Cutcliffe (Duke).

Maryland players honored by the coaches were senior DT Joe Vellano (first team), seniorLB Demetrius Hartsfield (second team), freshman WR/KR Stefon Diggs (second team specialist), senior DT A.J. Francis (honorable mention),and senior LBs Kenny Tate (honorable mention) and Darin Drakeford (honorable mention).

Virginia players named were senior OT Oday Aboushi (first team), LB Steve Greer (second team), senior LB LaRoy Reynolds (honorable mention), sophomore CB Demetrious Nicholson (honorable mention), and junior OT Morgan Moses (honorable mention).

Virginia Tech players selected were junior LB Jack Tyler (first team), junior DE James Gayle (second team), junior CB Anone Exum (second team), senior LB Bruce Taylor (honorable mention), senior DT Anthony Hopkins, junior CB Kyle Fuller (honorable mention), senior WR Marcus Davis (honorable mention), and senior OTs Michael Via and Vinston Painter (honorable mention).
