A 63-year-old woman was fatally shot in her Northeast D.C. home, police said, and the 73-year-old man who shot her has been arrested.

About 8:15 p.m. Thursday, police went to the 1800 block of Maryland Avenue NE and found Shirley Renee Tucker suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She was taken to a hospital, where she died, police spokesman Officer Araz Alali said.

Police determined that Joseph Chandler, who also lived in the residence, had shot Tucker in a domestic incident. He was arrested on charges of second-degree murder while armed.

The Washington Post reported that Tucker was Chandler's girlfriend.
