A woman was fatally shot and her young daughter was injured as they boarded a Metrobus in Southeast D.C., police said.

The shooting occurred at about 5:30 p.m. Sunday near the intersection of Minnesota Avenue and 18th Street. The woman and child were on a B2 Metrobus, and it appears that the shooter was outside the bus, according to media reports.

The woman, who was shot multiple times, died at the scene, police said. The child was taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Police believe that the woman was targeted, and news outlets have reported that she argued with the gunman as she was trying to board the bus.
