A 50-year-old man was ejected from a truck and then killed in a hit-and-run crash in Anne Arundel County, police said.

The incident occurred between 3 and 3:30 a.m. Tuesday on Interstate 97 between Route 32 and Benfield Boulevard.

A truck that was traveling north on I-97 entered the median, struck a guardrail and overturned. Both the driver and the passenger were ejected from the vehicle, and the passenger landed in the southbound lanes of the interstate. The passenger was then apparently standing up in one of the southbound lanes when he was struck by a vehicle that did not stop, according to Maryland State Police.

The passenger died at the scene. The truck's driver, a 31-year-old man, was taken to a hospital and was undergoing treatment Tuesday morning, police said.

A description of the striking vehicle was not immediately available. Anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have been in the area at the time can call Maryland State Police at 410-761-5130.
