A 49-year-old woman was groped Tuesday morning in the Springfield area, and police believe that this is be the 12th reported attack in the area that was committed by the same person.

About 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, the woman was running along Blarney Stone Drive near Omega Court when a man ran up behind her and fondled her. The woman struck her attacker with her hand, and he fled, Fairfax County police officials said.

The attacker was described as a Hispanic man, between 25 and 30 years old and about 5 feet 6 inches tall. He was wearing a red cap, a black jacket and blue skinny jeans.

Tuesday's fondling is the 12th similar incident that has been reported in the area in the past few months. In several other assaults, the attacker was also wearing a red hat.
