A bow hunter who accidentally shot himself with a gun in a Montgomery County park Tuesday could face charges, police said.

A 45-year-old Derwood man was bow hunting in McKee-Beshers Wildlife Management Area when the pistol he was carrying went off and struck his left calf, Sgt. Brian Albert with Maryland Natural Resources Police.

The hunter called police at about 12:20 p.m. Tuesday, and he was located at about 1 p.m., according to a Montgomery County police spokeswoman. He was flown to a hospital and was undergoing surgery Tuesday night.

The man could face charges because it is illegal for hunters to carry a gun during deer archery season, Albert said.
