A 72-year-old Centreville man died after a two-vehicle collision in Fairfax County, police said.

The crash took place at about 7 p.m. Monday at the intersection of Centreville Road and Compton Road.

Charles V. McCormick was driving a 1984 Oldsmobile southbound on Centreville and attempted to turn left onto Compton. The Oldsmobile pulled into the path of an oncoming 1999 Mercedes SL500, which then struck the passenger side of the Oldsmobile, according to Fairfax County police.

McCormick was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead a short time later. A police spokesman said he did not have any information about the condition of the 70-year-old Leesburg man who was driving the Mercedes.

Police believe that speed and alcohol were not factors in the crash. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.
