Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood announces that Santa Claus has been cleared by the Federal Aviation Administration for takeoff on Christmas Eve.

Thanks to Next-Gen Performance-Based Navigation technology, LaHood reports, the flight will be safer and more “fuel efficient.”

“It allows Team Santa to fly shorter, more direct routes, which reduces flight time and carrot consumption by Rudolph and the other reindeer,” LaHood explains.
