Authorities have charged two men involved in a gunfight in a Silver Spring parking lot on New Year's day.

Derek Bratcher, 32, of Silver Spring, was charged with conspiracy to commit first-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and illegal possession of a firearm, while Lamaughan Solomon, 38, of Germantown, was charged with two counts of attempted murder and reckless endangerment.

Police said the two men were part of an ongoing dispute between two groups since about August. A group including Bratcher were confronted by Solomon and another group at a parking lot on the 13000 block of Brahms Terrace at about 2:54 p.m. on Jan. 1.

As Solomon and Bratcher walked toward each other, a suspect exited Bratcher's vehicle and displaying a handgun. Solomon then produced a handgun and began firing at Bratcher and one of his family members, according to police. Bratcher fled the scene, and no one was injured, according to authorities.

Police still are investigating the shooting, and additional suspects could be charged.
