Amtrak will be adding more options for riders to get between Washington and New York City later this month.

The agency plans to offer late service starting on Jan. 28 on two new Acela trains between the cities, with stops in between at Baltimore, Wilmington, Philadelphia and Newark.

One new train will leave Washington's Union station at 8 p.m. and arrive at New York's Penn Station at 10:45 p.m. Meanwhile, a 9:15 p.m. Acela train will leave New York and arrive at Union Station at 11:59 p.m. The extra train service means that Amtrak will have 16 round-trips on Acela.

Riders can start booking tickets, Amtrak said Monday.

Those taking the train should be prepared to use transportation other than Metro to get to their final destination. The last Red Line train bound for Shady Grove is scheduled to pass through the station at 11:59 p.m. But riders heading in the Glenmont direction have until 12:11 a.m. to catch the last Metro train of the night.
