Montgomery County police are looking for a car that was used by the people involved in an armed robbery in Silver Spring.

About 10:45 p.m. Friday, a woman was walking in the 800 block of Bonifant Street when a man approached her from behind. The robber grabbed the victim's purse, demanded that she give her bag to him and implied that he had a weapon, police said.

The woman gave the man her purse, and he got into the passenger seat of a silver Volkswagen Jetta with a Maryland license plate reading 2AE6782. The Jetta then fled the scene.

Investigators determined that the Jetta had been stolen from Hyattsville, and detectives believe that the culprits may still be using the car in Montgomery and Prince George's counties.

The man who grabbed the woman's purse was described as a black male in his 20s who was wearing dark clothing. The woman could not see the Jetta's driver.

Anyone with information can call 301-279-8000 or 866-411-TIPS (8477).
