The D.C. Attorney General's Office is likely to decide this week whether anyone will be prosecuted for an incident in which NBC News reporter David Gregory displayed what was said to be a high-capacity rifle magazine on "Meet the Press."

"[The Metropolitan Police Department] has completed the investigation into this matter, and the case has been presented to the OAG for a determination of the prosecutorial merit of the case," D.C. police spokeswoman Gwendolyn Crump wrote in an email.

Attorney General's Office spokesman Ted Gest said that he thinks the office will likely make a decision about whether to file charges by the end of the week.

Attorney General Irvin Nathan said Wednesday morning that he still needed to look at the report.

"My impression... is that NBC has been cooperative," Nathan said.

Gregory held up the magazine on the Dec. 23 edition of "Meet the Press" when he was interviewing National Rifle Association CEO Wayne LaPierre about the deadly shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Conn.

High-capacity ammunition magazines are illegal in the District, where the show was filmed. Police have said that NBC had asked officers whether they could use a high-capacity magazine for the segment, but that the request was denied.
