After critical New York Times article, White House releases gender-inclusive staff photo

The White House's 'Photo of the Day' is a much more gender inclusive photo of President Obama's senior staff after the New York Times ran a story criticizing the president for his male-dominated staff.

"In an Oval Office meeting on Dec. 29, 11 of President Obama’s top advisers stood before him discussing the heated fiscal negotiations," reported the Times in an article published today on page A-1. "The 10 visible in a White House photo are men."

According to the White House caption on the image, the photo released today was taken by White House photographer Pete Souza on January 8 - the same day the New York Times story went online.

The image shows President Barack Obama meeting with several women advisors in the Oval Office including Kathryn Ruemmler, Counsel to the President; Senior Advisor Valerie Jarrett and Nancy-Ann DeParle, Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy.
