ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) -- A Maryland lawmaker who was charged last month with operating a boat under the influence of alcohol has announced he has been reassigned from the House Judiciary Committee to the House Ways and Means Committee.

Delegate Don Dwyer, R-Anne Arundel, made the announcement in a statement on Thursday.

In a short statement, Dwyer says he understands House Speaker Michael Busch's decision to make the change. The delegate also says he welcomes the opportunity to serve on the House Ways and Means Committee to the best of his ability.

Dwyer's boat and another vessel collided last August on the Magothy River, injuring several people.
