The District's first homicide of the year took place Thursday afternoon, when a man was fatally stabbed near the Good Hope Marketplace.

About 3:30 p.m. Thursday, an off-duty officer was alerted to the incident. Police went to the 2800 block of Alabama Avenue SE and found a man with stab wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police spokeswoman Officer Tisha Gant said.

Police are looking for two black men, 25 to 30 years old, who were wearing reflective vests.

Last year, four homicides had occurred by 12 a.m. on Jan. 10, 2012, according to statistics on the Metropolitan Police Department's website.
