HOT BEATS

Beat-making has never looked or sounded so cool. Liv Nightclub (2001 11th St. NW) is throwing a party with Beat Society, a network of hip-hop producers -- or beat-makers as they're called. This major hip-hop network was created back in the days before hip-hop producers received any shine for their work and was an online medium for trading tips and sharing advice. It's transformed over the past decade, making it the first live showcase for producers behind the boards. Liv is hosting beat-makers !llmind, Judah, Hezekiah and IMakemadbeats who'll be laying down tracks for Skyzoo, Wes Felton and many others.

The show kicks off at 8 p.m. Tickets are $15, and you'll need to purchase them in advance at livdc.com.

FRESH EATS

The District is about to get a little healthier thanks to the grand opening of New York-based, fast-food chain Energy Kitchen (1901 L St. NW). Every one of its dishes comes in at less than 500 calories, so those of you who vowed to lose a few pounds this year can conquer the challenge with ease. The health-centric restaurant is opening up shop near the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, and while it's still fast food, it's not what they call "fat food." They've disclosed the calorie content next to every menu item, which just so happens to be either grilled, baked or steamed. So you can still enjoy a juicy burger, fries and a milkshake guilt-free! For more information about the opening and a more extensive look at their menu, go to energykitchen.com.
