During the White House Press Briefing today, a reporter asked Press Secretary Jay Carney whether the President knew that Beyonce lip-synced the National Anthem during his inauguration ceremony.

Carney asserted that he hadn’t discussed the issue with the president, adding that he had “no idea” whether it was true as he read a “variety” of conflicting reports on the issue.

“I don’t think it’s really a particularly important issue to address from the podium here,” he asserted.

“I’m glad you guys are focused on the important issues of the day here,” Carney added sarcastically as a couple of White House reporters asked followup questions.

Carney reminded them that in 2008, musician Yo-Yo Ma had to rely on a recording of his performance due to the cold weather.

“As powerful as this office is, we don’t control the weather,” Carney continued. “As many issues as we deal with here, we still have to choose what we don’t deal with and this is one of those issues.”
