Former Maryland State Delegate Christine Miller Jones has died, days after she was rescued from a fire at her Temple Hills home, officials said.
The fire occurred Thursday morning at Jones' home in the 3500 block of Everest Drive in Temple Hills. Firefighters quickly extinguished the blaze and removed Jones from the first floor of the house.
Paramedics found Jones without a pulse and performed CPR. She was taken to a nearby hospital in critical condition and was later taken to a hospital in Baltimore, where she died Saturday night, Prince George's County Fire/EMS spokesman Mark Brady said.
Jones, 83, represented Prince George's County in the Maryland House of Delegates from 1982 to 1994. She served as assistant majority floor leader during her last year in the legislature, according to Maryland State Archives.
The Prince George's County Fire Marshal's Office is continuing to investigate the cause of the fire. The flames appear to have started in a first-floor bedroom.
