D.C. police said they arrested nine people for allegedly dealing drugs - including crack cocaine - in the District's Shaw neighborhood following a months-long investigation.

Police seized the crack, drug paraphernalia and other evidence. The nine people arrested face charges of firearm violations, drug distribution and robbery. Police spokesman Officer Araz Alali said the takedown occurred Friday near 8th and R streets NW.

D.C. police worked with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives on a months-long investigation into the drug ring.

In a statement, Police Chief Cathy Lanier said many of those charged do not live in the neighborhood, and have also been charged with loitering.
