One person suffered burn injuries at a fire at a Lorton sandwich shop, and Fairfax County officials are investigating whether it was started after someone threw an incendiary device into the restaurant.

At about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, police and fire crews responded to a report of an explosion and fire at Subshop Eats in the 9500 block of Richmond Highway.

Fire officials put out the small fire.

One male occupant was injured and taken to the Washington Burn Center with what authorities called non-life threatening injuries. No other injuries were reported.

A witness told authorities that a person threw an incendiary device into the restaurant and fled. Police helicopters and K-9 crews were called to look for the person.

Fairfax County police spokesman Don Godhardt said he has not confirmed whether a person threw an explosive device into the restaurant.

Fairfax County police are leading the investigation and being assisted by Fairfax County fire officials.
