A top Arlington official plans to cut about 50 county positions to help reduce costs for next year's budget, expected to have a shortfall of as much as $50 million.
County Manager Barbara Donnellan told the county's 3,600 workers of her intentions to cut 46 positions to reduce budget cuts. Twenty of those are filled, and another 20 employees have accepted an early retirement package, she said.
The staff-wide email, first reported by the Arlnow blog, also said the county is working to move the employees whose positions are eliminated into other empty positions. The email did not identify which jobs the county plans to cut, however.
Donnellan is scheduled to announce her proposed budget Wednesday.
