The charge against the 10-year-old Alexandria boy who showed a toy gun to others on a school bus earlier this month and then brought the fake weapon to his elementary school reportedly will be dropped.

The boy's mother told the WRC-TV that she was informed by the public defender's office that her son's brandishing a weapon charge would be dismissed. The mother also said that her son's 10-day suspension was reduced to six days, and that her son is now attending a different school.

On Feb. 4, the boy showed the toy gun to other students on a bus ride home from Douglas MacArthur Elementary School and did not tell his classmates that they gun was not real. When the fifth-grade boy arrived at the school the next day, police found the toy gun in his book bag and took him into custody.

The Alexandria public defender's office told The Washington Examiner on Tuesday that it doesn't comment on pending cases.
