A Reston woman who was found dead inside a smoke-filled apartment was pregnant, and police said that they are investigating her death as a homicide.

On Monday morning, firefighters went to an apartment in the 12000 block of Waterside View Drive for a report of smoke. After firefighters entered the apartment, they found 38-year-old Jennifer Lynne Pearson's body. A small fire that was found in the apartment was quickly extinguished, officials said.

Detectives determined that Pearson had trauma to her upper body. Police detectives and the fire marshal's office are jointly investigating Pearson's death.

A Fairfax County police spokeswoman said Tuesday that she did not know how far along Pearson was in her pregnancy.
