Two children and a man were killed in a fire in Glenarden early Thursday morning that also injured two other children and a woman.
Firefighters were alerted to the fire at a single-family home in the 8600 block of Leslie Avenue around 4 a.m. Thursday. They searched the burning home and removed a man and three young girls -- ages 5, 8 and 11 -- from the building, according to Prince George's Fire/EMS spokesman Mary Brady.
None of the four were breathing or had pulses, so firefighters started CPR, and paramedics then took the victims to hospitals. A short time later, the man and two of the children were pronounced dead.
A pulse was restored in one child, and that child was being transferred Thursday morning to a hospital that specializes in treating children, Brady said.
The woman and another 8-year-old child had escaped the home before firefighters arrived. They were injured less seriously and were also taken to hospitals.
The fire was knocked down within 30 minutes of firefighters' arrival to the scene, Brady said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
