Montgomery County police say residents are still being targeted by a telephone scam in which the caller says that a loved one has been kidnapped or injured.

Police have received six more reports since authorities first reported the scam late last month.

Several Rockville residents received a call saying that their sons were in a car accident and had been kidnapped or struck with a gun. The caller told the victim that their sons would be killed unless the victims wired money. The parents sent money to Florida and Puerto Rico.

Similar calls were made to Silver Spring and Montgomery Village.

Detectives said the calls originated from outside the country, but appears to look like a local number, using a technique called "spoofing."

If you believe you have been the victim of a phone scam, call Montgomery County Police at (301) 279-8000.
