House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, suggested that President Obama is being “silly” by cancelling White House tours over sequestration, as he reiterated his invitation that tourists visit the Capitol instead.

“The United States Capitol is open to visitors,” Boehner said to open his weekly press briefing. “I think its silly that they have insisted on locking down the White House, which the American people actually own.”

The White House Visitors Office announced the cancellations on Tuesday. “Due to staffing reductions resulting from sequestration, we regret to inform you that White House Tours will be canceled effective Saturday, March 9, 2013 until further notice,” the White House email to Congress explained.  “Unfortunately, we will not be able to reschedule affected tours.  We very much regret having to take this action, particularly during the popular Spring touring season.”
