The National Gallery of Art will add two new modern art galleries and a rooftop sculpture garden in a $30 million renovation scheduled to begin next January, according to a report in the Washington Post.

The museum's East Building exhibition space will expand by 12,260 square feet in the two new Tower Galleries, and the museum's ceilings will be raised.

The renovation, which is funded by a group of Washington philanthropists that includes museum president Victoria Sant, will close the East Building galleries for about three years, according to the report.
