President Obama on Tuesday nominated two men to serve as D.C. Superior Court judges.

The White House said that Obama has picked Michael Kenny O'Keefe and Robert Okun to serve on the bench.

"Throughout their careers, these nominees have displayed unwavering commitment to justice and integrity," Obama said in a statement. "Their records are distinguished and impressive, and I am confident they will serve the American people well."

O'Keefe is a lawyer whose practice focuses on family law and criminal defense matters. He earned his law degree in the District, graduating from American University.

Okun is a federal prosecutor who oversees the special proceedings division for the U.S. Attorney's Office for the District of Columbia. He is a Harvard Law School graduate.

The Senate must confirm both men before they can join the court.
