Cheverly woman dies in house fire
Prince George's County firefighters discovered a Cheverly resident dead in her home Sunday morning.
Firefighters arrived just before 8 a.m. at the two-story, single-family home on the 2400 block of 59th Place, according to department spokesman Mark Brady. Flames were already visible outside the home, indicating the fire had been burning for a while before 911 was called.
The cause of the fire, as well as the cause of the woman's death, are still under investigation.
However, the fire appears to have been accidental, said Fire Chief Marc Bashoor. Fire investigators found a smoke detector with no batteries inside the home and signs that the woman may have been a hoarder, which can create a fire hazard.
