Wednesday was officially a big day in the city for District drinkers. D.C. Mayor Vincent Gray stopped by Martin's Tavern in Georgetown as the establishment celebrated its 80th anniversary. Gray brought along an official proclamation marking April 3, 2013, "Martin's Tavern Day," handing it over to owners Billy Martin Jr. and his wife, Gina, at the packed party.

Gray also stepped behind the bar for a bit. "The next thing you know, he started handing out beers to everybody, and the cameras went wild on the other side," said the event's planner, Christina Cox. The popular watering hole is where JFK and Jackie got engaged. It's frequented by Chris Matthews and, when they're in town, Brian Williams and Conan O'Brien.
