Former Planned Parenthood nurses: 'Ridiculously unsafe' clinic puts women at risk for HIV

Two former Planned Parenthood nurses claim that they quit working at a Delaware abortion clinic because of “ridiculously unsafe” medical practices, alleging that the doctor didn’t wash the blood off the operating tables between abortions.

“I couldn’t tell you how ridiculously unsafe it was,” former nurse Jayne Mitchell-Werbrich told the local ABC affiliate, before charging the doctor with failing to wash the operating tables. “It’s not washed down, it’s not even cleaned off. It has bloody drainage on it.”

Another nurse, Joyce Vasikonis, said the doctor didn’t sterilize his instruments. “They could be at risk of getting hepatitis, even AIDS,” she said.

The Delaware Department of Health and Human Services said it didn’t find evidence of such unsanitary practices when it checked the clinic following a complaint last year.

“I am not going to lie to you, we don’t have the manpower to do routine inspections,” a state HHS spokeswoman said.

Pro-life activists likened the Delaware clinic to the clinic run by Kermit Gosnell, the Philadelphia abortion doctor on trial for murdering one woman and seven infants.

“America’s number one abortion business cannot claim that the Kermit Gosnell ‘house of horrors’ is an isolated incident while their own employees expose them for conditions they call ‘ridiculously unsafe,’ ” said Susan B. Anthony List President Marjorie Dannenfelser in a statement Wednesday. “The abortion industry cannot be relied upon to police themselves and repeatedly opposing efforts to strengthen health and safety standards in abortion clinics does not reflect true concern for women and girls.”
