The future color of all D.C. cabs is set to be red with a gray stripe.
The D.C. taxicab commission is scheduled to make an announcement about their color choice Wednesday. An earlier panel recommended an all-red scheme, but the full commission has added a gray stripe to the design, NBC4 reports.
The commission will have to hold public hearings on the color before giving it final approval, likely in June, D.C. Taxicab Commission Chairman Ron Linton said, adding that he would not confirm or deny that the chosen color was red.
The uniform color scheme is part of D.C.'s plan to modernize its taxi fleet under laws passed last year. But it will be years before all the city's cabs will be the same color, since only new cabs or those getting a paint job anyway are required to be painted the city's color.
