Three men injured in D.C. shootings
Two separate shootings in the District overnight left a total of three men injured, police said.
The first shooting took place shortly before midnight on the 800 block of Buchanan St. NW. A man told police that he was walking when the assailant emerged from an alley and started shooting. The victim was struck in the forearm and armpit and was conscious and breathing when he was taken to a hospital, police spokesman Officer Anthony Clay said. The assailant was described as a man wearing a black ski mask and carrying a handgun.
The second shooting occurred at about 1:50 a.m. on the 2400 block of Elvans Road SE, which is near Suitland Parkway. The victims, two men, told police that they were approached by two or three men, one of whom produced a handgun and shot them, Clay said.
The victims were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Illegal alien arrested in Silver Spring for child rape allegations
An Ecuadorian national in the U.S. illegally was arrested near a bus terminal in Silver Spring and has been charged with raping a 9-year-old girl in Baltimore.
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials say 31-year-old Henry Estrella-Cordova was charged with second-degree rape, assault and other offenses in the alleged crime, which Baltimore police say occurred about May 7.
Pedestrian struck in MontCo
A 52-year-old Beltsville woman was critically injured when she was struck by a van that had been hit by another vehicle.
According to Montgomery County police, at about 9 a.m. Thursday, Mary Josephine Fish was standing at a median in the intersection of Veirs Mill Road and Georgia Avenue in Wheaton.
The driver of a Honda Accord, 37-year-old Felicitas Cayo Carpio, made an unsafe lane change and struck a white van, police said. The impact propelled the van onto the curb of the median, striking the woman.
Charges are pending.
