Friday through Sunday: 'History of the World: Part I' at AFI Silver Theatre
Comedic film genius Mel Brooks will be honored with AFI's Life Achievement Award next month. In celebration, AFI Silver Theatre in Silver Spring presents a Mel Brooks Retrospective, to run through July. The retrospective includes the classic "History of the World: Part I" screening this weekend. Upcoming films include "High Anxiety," "To Be Or Not To Be" and "Spaceballs."

Saturday: Burlesque-A-Pades Beach Party at the Howard Theatre
One of the top touring burlesque shows comes to the Howard Theatre this Saturday. There's a lot to like here, but the headliner is Angie Pontani, "the reigning queen of burlesque." What a way to kick off the summer, with a heavy dose of burlesque, vaudeville and comedy.

Sunday: Kelly Rowland and The Dream at the Fillmore Silver Spring
Destiny's Child founding member Kelly Rowland has been busy. Her fourth album "Talk a Good Game" is due out in June, and she was recently named a new judge of the Simon Cowell show "The X Factor." Now she's on her "Lights Out Tour" with The Dream, who produced a pair of tracks on the forthcoming album.

Saturday & Sunday: Mt. Vernon Special Evening Event
Each Memorial Day weekend, George Washington's home opens for evening tours with its special Sunset Celebration at Mount Vernon. Wine and desserts will be available for purchase on the lawn overlooking the Potomac River; and music, dancing, games and wagon rides available for entertainment. If you've never been to Mt. Vernon, it's been a while, or you have visitors in town, check it out this weekend.
