On this day, May 26, in 1989, Rep. Donald "Buz" Lukens was found guilty of paying a 16-year-old girl for sex.

Lukens, a Republican from Ohio, was caught on camera at a McDonald's restaurant in Columbus talking to a woman about having sex with her daughter for $40.

The scandal cost him the 1990 Republican primary, where he lost to John Boehner, now the speaker of the House of Representatives.

While Lukens was serving out his term, an elevator operator at the U.S. Capitol accused him of fondling her, and he was ordered to serve 30 days in jail.

In 1996, Lukens was convicted of taking $15,000 in bribes and sentenced to 30 months in prison. Lukens died in 2010 at age 79.
