A retired elementary school principal has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a young boy in 2009 during a church-sanctioned youth group camping trip in Fairfax County, authorities said.

Thomas H. Clement, 62, of Clifton, was arrested Thursday on two counts of felony aggravated sexual battery of a minor, Virginia State Police said. He was being held without bond Tuesday.

In February, a state police special agent received a complaint in which the victim alleged that Clement sexually assaulted him while on an overnight camping trip at Burke Lake Park in October 2009, when the victim was 9 years old.

Clement worked in the Fairfax County Public Schools from 1978 to 2006, when he retired. His last position in the school system was as principal of Bull Run Elementary School in Centreville, said schools spokesman John Torre.

Anyone with information related to the camping incident can call police at 540-829-7744.
