Woman sexually assaulted during break-in
D.C. police are investigating an armed burglary and the sexual assault of a woman at her home in Northeast Washington.
At about 4 a.m. Wednesday, the two robbers entered a residence on the 2400 block of Second Street NE, and produced a handgun and knife. One of the suspects sexually assaulted an adult female before taking property and fleeing.
The first robber was described as a black male, medium to dark complexion, about 6-feet tall, last seen wearing a dark hoodie and black mask. He was armed with a handgun.
The second robber was a black male, medium to dark complexion, about 5-feet-7, last seen wearing dark clothing and a black mask. He was armed with a knife.
D.C. burglar sentenced
A Temple Hills man was sentenced to 4 1/2 years in prison for a series of home break-ins around Columbia Heights and Petworth in Northwest Washington.
Tyrone Edmondson, 40, admitted to breaking into a home on the 800 block of Varnum Street NW on Christmas Day 2012 and another home on the 1500 block of Upshur Street NW on Jan. 21. He took computers, electronic devices, a television, jewelry, jackets, jeans, cameras and other valuables. During the second theft, the owner heard noises in her living room and called D.C. police. Officers found Edmondson in an alley near the house with the victim's property.
Teen shot and killed
A 16-year-old Southeast D.C. boy is dead after being shot in Northeast Washington, police said.
About 11:20 p.m. Monday, police went to the 1200 block of Brentwood Road NE and found Malik Spears in a hallway of a building, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to a hospital, where he was admitted in critical condition. Spears died from his injuries Tuesday afternoon, D.C. police said.
