Roberto Clemente Middle School in Germantown was evacuated Friday morning after teachers and five students smelled a strange odor and began to feel sick.
Montgomery County Fire Department officials have determined pepper spray to be the source of the odor. Those who felt sick are receiving medical attention as a precaution.
After the school was evacuated just after 11:30 Friday morning, some students were taken to Seneca Valley High School to escape the rain. Before everyone could be taken there, however, Montgomery County Fire Department officials determined that the school was determined to be safe.
By 12:45, just over an hour after the school was evacuated, everyone not taken for medical treatment was back in the building, according to Montgomery County Public Schools spokesman Dana Tofig.
