Hillary Clinton finally sent her first personal tweet on Monday, and the people she made most happy were a couple of political communications professionals she surprised with a shout-out.

"Thanks for the inspiration @ASmith83 & @Sllambe - I'll take it from here," wrote the former secretary of state (who is described in her bio as a "hair icon" and "pantsuit aficionado," among other more distinguished labels). She used the wink-wink hashtag #tweetsfromhillary.

Adam Smith and Stacy Lambe created the popular "Texts From Hillary" Tumblr while Clinton was still in office. The Tumblr closed down in April 2012 after Clinton met with the creative duo and submitted her own photo for the meme, layering suggested text messages over photos of Clinton gazing at her BlackBerry.

"To this day, I am still surprised that Hillary Clinton embraced our Tumblr but she's a sharp politician and saw an opportunity to have fun with her own image," Lambe told Yeas & Nays in an email.

Lambe said despite the lasting legacy, he's not tempted to revisit the Tumblr. "Too much pressure and I rather let the Internet continue to have fun with it how they want to," he said.

The meme lives on, somewhat, through @HillaryClinton, where she is using the photo that started it all -- taken in the belly of a plane -- as her avatar.
