House Speaker John Boehner, R-Ohio, called President Obama's upcoming climate change proposal "absolutely crazy," saying it would harm the nation's still-fragile economy.
The president is expected to introduce his plan next week that would address climate change issues through new Environmental Protection Agency regulations. But the Ohio Republican, speaking with reporters at the Capitol Thursday, already panned the proposal.
"Why would you want to increase the cost of energy and kill more American jobs at a time when the American people are still asking the question, where are the jobs?" he said.
Obama's plan will include tighter rules for power plants, a push for more energy-efficient buildings and appliances, and additional green energy development on public lands, a White House official said Wednesday.
The president promised in his State of the Union address this year to make climate change a priority of his second term.
