Here's proof that the House can do something in a bipartisan manner. After a 30 minute debate and by a vote of 395-2 late Tuesday, the House was able to name a new Interstate 70 bridge connecting St. Louis and Illinois over the Mississippi River for Hall of Famer Stan Musial.
The vote ended a debate in the Midwest between those favoring the St. Louis Cardinals baseball great and those favoring war veterans. In the end, they combined the two to call it the "Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge."
The sponsor of the bill, Illinois Republican Rep. Rodney Davis heaped praise on veterans the ballplayer who retired with a .331 batting average. He called Stan "The Man" Musial the "best player to ever don a St. Louis Cardinals uniform." Musial died earlier this year.
