Liberal Daily Beast columnist Kirsten Powers denounced Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis for her crusade against a proposed 20-week abortion prohibition and her new status as a hero to the left.

"As if ... she speaks for women," Powers said during an interview earlier today on Fox News. "First of all, she doesn't."

Davis, who last week filibustered a Texas GOP attempt to ban abortions after 20 weeks, is now being put on a pedestal by national Democrats as an heroic defender of women's rights. NPR even called her "an instant folk hero" for her refusal to put any kind of restrictions on late-term abortions.

Powers pointed out that Texas polls (which show 62 percent of residents support a bill that would prohibit abortions after 20 weeks) mirror national polls. Those polls, according to Powers, show "60-something percent of Americans opposing second trimester abortions and 80 percent opposing third trimester. I think if you put 20 weeks up, you're going to get pretty high opposition, including, you know, 50 percent of women."

Based on this, Powers found it difficult to believe that "this person is heralded as a 'hero'" for supporting abortions after 20 weeks, even if the baby is healthy.

"This is very dark, frankly," Powers concluded.

This is also not the first time Powers has made her opinion known on the topic of Wendy Davis and late-term abortions. Over the weekend, the Fox News contributor lobbed attacks at Wendy Davis on Twitter, saying, "please explain to me how ending the life of a healthy 20+ week old baby is 'fighting for human rights.'"
