Kansas City: Voters weigh unusual tax to fund medical research

If approved, the half-cent sales tax proposal on the Nov. 5 ballot would raise $800 million over 20 years to underwrite medical research at two private hospitals and the health professional schools at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, all collaborating under a new umbrella organization: the Jackson County Institute for Translational Medicine.
