A new undercover probe of a controversial New Mexico abortion clinic shows that doctors kill the fetus with an injection into the bottom or head of the fetus, calling it the “humane way to do it” in part because they don’t believe the baby feels pain.
The video from anti-abortion group LiveAction.org also reveals the surprising price of an abortion at Albuquerque’s Southwestern Women’s Options: $8,000 to start, plus an extra $1,000 for every week a woman waits after six months.
The video is timed to influence a planned Nov. 19 vote by city residents on a groundbreaking fetal pain ordinance.
It is titled "Profits from Pain," and features a trademark LiveAction.org undercover audio investigation of a facility the group has targeted before.
In the Nov. 8 recording, a Live Action investigator schedules a 25-week abortion – a "week-long procedure." When Live Action’s caller expresses shock at the abortion's cost – $8,000 – the staffer on the phone jokes, "Are you still in your chair?" She adds: "Every week that goes by, the fee goes up by another thousand dollars.”
Later, when the Live Action investigator shows up at the clinic, it is explained that the fetus will be injected either in its bottom or skull. Asked if it hurts the fetus, the center’s counselor responds, “I’m not sure...I don’t believe so.” She then calls the technique the “humane way to do it.”
"This facility is only one of the worst examples of the abortion industry's complete disregard for basic human rights," Lila Rose, Live Action's president, said.
Live Action said the new video “shines a light on the ideological chasm” between the city’s Pain Capable Unborn Child Protection Ordinance and the federal Women's Health Protection Act of 2013, which the group said would push aside abortion regulations nationwide, from sanitation standards to waiting periods to building code regulations.
"On the one hand," Rose said, "we have a city making history by voting to forbid industrial slaughter of precious children. On the other, we have Planned Parenthood-backed, virulently pro-abortion politicians working to help abortionists carry out this butchery."Paul Bedard, The Washington Examiner's "Washington Secrets" columnist, can be contacted at firstname.lastname@example.org.
